Thoothukudi: Two 16-year-old boys drowned off the Tharuvaikulam coast near Thoothukudi on Sunday when they jumped into the sea during a trip with friends. Their bodies were recovered by local fishermen on Monday.According to police, seven boys from the fishing hamlet ventured into the sea on Sunday afternoon. Four boys jumped into the sea after the boat started drifting due to heavy wind, believing they could swim back to the shore. Meanwhile, one of the boys who stayed on the boat contacted his father on the phone. Another boat rescued the boy and two others on the stranded boat.Fishermen in the boat alerted others and launched a search for the boys who jumped into the sea. During the search, they rescued two boys. Personnel from the fire and rescue services and coastal security police joined the operation. However, the search was suspended on Sunday night due to poor visibility. When the search resumed on Monday morning, fishermen found the bodies of Joshua and Manoj Kumar floating in the sea. The bodies were brought back to the village.Police registered a case and are investigating.
