NEW DELHI: Delhi Traffic Police has announced extensive traffic restrictions around Red Fort on Aug 13 in view of the full-dress rehearsal ahead of Independence Day ceremony.Seven major stretches around Red Fort, including Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road and Ring Road between Rajghat and ISBT, will remain closed to general traffic from 4am to 10am.Commuters without valid parking labels have also been advised to avoid several major stretches, including C-Hexagon, Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg and Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate.On Aug 13 and 15, those travelling between north and south Delhi have been advised to use routes through Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Mandir Marg and Rani Jhansi Road. Another option is via Connaught Place, Minto Road, Ajmeri Gate and SP Mukherjee Marg. Commuters travelling across Yamuna can use Nizamuddin Bridge, Pushta Road, GT Road and Yudhister Setu.For east-west movement, authorities have suggested routes through NH-24, Barapulla Road, Ring Road, Vikas Marg, DDU Marg and Minto Road. The DND-NH24-Yudhister Setu-Signature Bridge-Wazirabad Bridge corridor will remain open, while Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge towards Shanti Van will be closed.Travel to key transport hubs will also be affected. Old Delhi Railway Station, New Delhi Railway Station and ISBT Kashmere Gate will remain accessible through designated alternative routes. There will be no restriction on access to JPN Hospital, while a specific route via Ajmeri Gate and Urdu Bazar has been suggested for Kasturba Hospital.With Independence Day celebrations scheduled at Red Fort on Aug 15, Delhi Traffic Police has announced extensive traffic restrictions and diversions across central and north Delhi. Authorities have advised people to leave early and avoid last-minute travel.Even as kanwar rush nears its end, commuters travelling through central Delhi may now face traffic restrictions around Pragati Maidan from Wednesday as Delhi govt is set to host Bharat Vyapar Mahotsav 2026 at Bharat Mandapam from Aug 12 to 15. The event will be held from 9am to 7pm and is expected to draw around 20,000-25,000 participants.According to a traffic advisory issued, restrictions will be in place on Mathura Road, Bhairon Marg and surrounding roads. The traffic police have advised motorists against halting or parking in the area during the restricted period. Ring Road has been suggested as an alternative route. Vehicles parked on these stretches will be towed and owners prosecuted. The police said towed vehicles would be parked at the traffic pit in front of Bhairon Mandir on Bhairon Marg.
