New Delhi: The Delhi govt has asked Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to begin integrating its municipal services with DigiLocker and Entity Locker, a move to make verification and issuance of civic certificates faster and more secure. The department of information technology of the Delhi govt, in a letter dated Aug 7, directed MCD, along with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Delhi Cantonment Board, to initiate the integration following a communication from the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).The proposed system could allow citizens to get municipal documents verified digitally instead of relying on physical copies and manual verification. The Delhi govt said the integration would facilitate seamless verification and issuance of municipal certificates and improve citizen service delivery.Under the Requester Model, MCD could retrieve and verify documents such as birth and death certificates, licences and ownership records directly from the issuing authority in real time. This could make it easier for agencies or institutions requiring verification to authenticate municipal records without depending on physical documents. The second option, the Issuer Model, would allow municipal certificates to be issued digitally directly into citizens’ DigiLocker accounts, while Entity Locker would extend similar digital-document services to firms, companies, societies and trusts. The move comes as the Centre pushes local bodies towards greater use of digital credentials. For MCD, the integration could eventually mean that citizens would not have to repeatedly produce or carry physical municipal certificates when these documents are required for verification. The Delhi govt has asked MCD to designate a nodal officer who will coordinate with NeGD and the govt’s IT department, including Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD), for technical discussions and onboarding. NeGD will provide technical guidance and API specifications required for the integration.
