Kanpur: A group of men beat a college student who came to appear for an examination, leaving him severely wounded with a belt and bat on the road in the Chakeri police station area on Saturday night. The attackers fled after locals intervened.The injured student was identified as a resident of Gorakhpur, who studied at private college in Hathipur, Ruma. He came to Kanpur to appear for his back paper examination.On Saturday night, when Rajesh went to get food in Harjinder Nagar, Deepanshu Verma arrived with three associates and began threatening him. When Rajesh objected, the accused attacked him with a belt and bat.Rajesh tried to flee, but the miscreants chased him down the road and beat him, leaving him seriously injured. After the intervention of passersby and local residents, the attackers fled.Rajesh stated that Deepanshu Verma also studied at the same college. He said that about four years ago, they had an argument at the college, following which the accused had threatened to settle scores with him. Rajesh stated that he came to Kanpur specifically for the back paper examination, and when the accused got the opportunity, he was stopped near Harjinder Nagar Chauraha and assaulted.Upon receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and got the injured student medically examined. Police station in-charge Ajay Prakash Mishra said action is being taken on the basis of a complaint. “The absconding accused will be arrested soon and legal action taken.”
