Kochi: Mayor V K Minimol on Wednesday entrusted the corporation secretary to convey a decision at the next council meeting regarding the leasing of old railway station land on Dr Salim Ali Road for parking vehicles arriving at high court. It was informed that govt will provide funds for acquiring the land.Subsequently, in a meeting held in the presence of additional solicitor general, there was an opinion that parking fees should not be charged and that govt should pay the lease amount. Mayor entrusted the secretary to convey, in the next meeting with additional solicitor general, the council’s decision that if the govt does not provide funds, the land can be acquired by collecting parking fees.The land behind high court was identified to avoid parking vehicles, including those of lawyers, on the roads around the court. Initially, railways was not willing to hand over the land, but later they agreed to lease the land to corporation.
