New Delhi: Posing as an eligible bride in search of a husband and later going “missing”, 40-year-old Lalita allegedly got unsuspecting men into fake marriages before vanishing with their money. Police have arrested three people, including Lalita, her husband and another accomplice, Deepu.According to the police, the scam came to light after a missing-person report regarding Lalita was received at the Khyala police station on June 18. Technical surveillance and local intelligence tracked her to Rajasthan’s Pali district.She told cops that she has been married to Kamal Lohra for the last 18 years and has four children. The couple revealed that they had been targeting unmarried men by arranging fake marriages along with four accomplices, including another woman. Police have arrested three of the gang members, while the rest remain absconding.Lalita had allegedly arranged her marriage with a man from Jalore, Rajasthan, on June 1, before taking Rs 6 lakh from him and distributing it among the group. She further told cops that the plan was to flee with cash and valuables from the matrimonial house after marriage.A case was registered under sections 318 (cheating), 319 (cheating by personation), 61 (criminal conspiracy) and 215 (refusing to sign a statement) of BNS.
