A heavy monsoon spell is being predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for a number of eastern and northeastern states including Himalayan regions till July 18. Thunderstorms and gusty winds have been forecasted in some parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal along with the possibility of flash floods and rough sea.As per the All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin, released by the India Meteorological Department early Monday morning, Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Uttarakhand and a few northeast states would see the most intense rainfall spells in the coming days.On July 13, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal. Heavy rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Orissa, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Uttarakhand.IMD further stated that this wet phase will prevail throughout the week with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rains prevailing in Assam and Meghalaya once again on July 14. Heavy rain was also predicted over Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, East Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Uttarakhand and northeast India during July 14-15. In addition, the region of Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and other northeastern states is expected to be influenced by monsoon activities starting from July 16 onwards.

The department has predicted moderate to widespread rainfall over Uttarakhand until July 18. Widespread rains were predicted in Himachal Pradesh between July 17-18, while scattered showers along with thunderstorms and gusty winds blowing up to 40-60 kmph speed were predicted in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and neighbouring areas.For Eastern India, heavy rainfall is forecasted for Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal throughout the week. For Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal, the IMD has issued a warning regarding isolated spells of very heavy rainfall that can occur on July 13.The region of Central India is expected to see scattered rainfall in the regions of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha, where isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Chhattisgarh till July 15.In Western India, rainfall will be witnessed over Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Konkan, and Goa. Konkan and Goa will also experience widespread rainfall from July 15 onwards.For Southern India, too, the regions will experience monsoon rains, as isolated to scattered rainfall is forecasted over Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema. IMD has issued a warning regarding isolated heatwave conditions in Coastal Andhra Pradesh over July 13 and 14, even though monsoon is occurring at present. Hot and humid weather is expected in Odisha on July 13 and Coastal Tamil Nadu over July 13 and 14.Weather alerts have been with regards to thunderstorms and lightning activity in various states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand. Wind gusts of speeds reaching 60kmph will affect parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands whereas strong surface winds will be there over Telangana and parts of Andhra Pradesh.The IMD has also warned about the possibility of low to moderate flash flood risks over the next 24 hours in Assam and Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Bihar districts. The vulnerable districts include East Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills and Goalpara in Assam and Meghalaya; Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, East Sikkim, West Sikkim, North Sikkim, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur and Malda in West Bengal and Sikkim; and Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Araria, Supaul, Madhubani and Khagaria in Bihar.
