New Delhi: Delhi Police has busted a gang that drugged unsuspecting passengers before robbing them of their valuables. The accused would allegedly approach commuters waiting at bus stands, offer them cheap rides in an auto-rickshaw and after gaining their confidence, serve them cold drinks laced with intoxicating tablets. Once the passengers lost consciousness, the duo would flee with their mobile phones, cash, bags and other belongings before abandoning them at secluded locations. The gang was traced following a complaint lodged on June 27. The complainant told police that while waiting at Janki Dass bus stand on Naraina Road, he was persuaded by an unknown man to share an auto-rickshaw. During the ride, another person boarded the vehicle and offered him a cold drink mixed with an intoxicating substance. He soon passed out, after which the accused stole his mobile phone, around Rs 15,000 in cash, a backpack and other belongings before leaving him at an isolated spot.DCP (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh formed a team for investigation. Cops reconstructed the vehicle’s route and spent three days analysing CCTV footage which led to the identification of the auto-rickshaw and its driver, Raj Kumar alias Raj. His questioning led police to his accomplice, Kasim alias Salman.Police said Kasim disclosed that the pair primarily preyed on lone passengers, labourers and daily wage earners travelling with luggage.Investigators have linked them to other similar cases registered in the Paschim Vihar East and Naraina police station areas. Kasim was also found to be involved in six previous criminal cases.
