Dengue tops vector-borne diseases in Delhi with 199 cases; malaria tally at 55, chikungunya at 13

NEW DELHI: Delhi has reported 199 dengue cases, 55 malaria cases and 13 chikungunya infections so far this year, with no deaths linked to any of the three vector-borne diseases, according to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s latest weekly report.Dengue continued to account for the highest number of cases in the capital, with nine fresh infections reported in the week ending July 11.During the same period, the city recorded three new malaria cases and one fresh case of chikungunya.The cumulative dengue tally stood at 199 as of July 11, lower than the 246 cases recorded during the corresponding period last year.Malaria cases dropped to 55 from 101 during the same period in 2025, while chikungunya cases rose to 13 from seven a year earlier.Among the MCD’s 12 zones, the West Zone recorded the highest number of dengue cases this year at 34, followed by the Central Zone with 26 cases and Civil Lines with 20.The West Zone also reported the highest number of malaria cases at 16, while the South Zone recorded eight cases and the Central Zone seven.According to the report, 182 of the 199 dengue cases, 52 of the 55 malaria cases and 12 of the 13 chikungunya cases were reported from areas under the MCD.The remaining cases came from the NDMC area, Delhi Cantonment and the Railways.Officials said the civic body is yet to release the vector-borne disease report for the latest week.As part of its anti-vector disease drive, the MCD conducted more than 1.99 crore house visits and found mosquito breeding in 52,636 houses.The civic body issued 47,506 legal notices, launched 5,555 prosecutions and collected nearly Rs 3.96 lakh through 1,777 spot fines till July 11.(With PTI inputs)
