NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Thursday said they have apprehended the driver accused of fatally hitting 34-year-old biker Sarthak Mattoo in a hit-and-run case in southwest Delhi last week.According to police, the accused has been identified as Apurv Singh (30), a resident of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh.Police said that on June 25, a PCR call was received at Vasant Kunj South police station reporting that a car had hit a motorcycle, leaving the rider seriously injured. An MLC was later received from the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre in Vasant Kunj stating that the injured, identified as Sarthak Mattoo, had been brought to the hospital by PCR but was declared brought dead. The development comes after Mattoo’s family released an emotional video seeking justice and questioning the police investigation into the case.Sarthak’s father, Surender Mattoo, alleged that the occupants of the SUV fled the scene instead of taking his son to hospital.“Our only child was killed in a hit-and-run case on June 25. But nothing has happened. I don’t know what the police department is doing,” he had said in the video. The family also questioned the timing of the blood sample collection from the accused and appealed to the authorities for strict action.According to the investigation, Sarthak, who worked with a Gurgaon-based event management company, was riding his motorcycle from Gurgaon to Noida for work at around 6.30am on June 25 when a Mahindra Thar allegedly struck him near the Rajokri flyover in southwest Delhi.Police had earlier said the Karnataka-registered SUV belonged to a Bengaluru-based private company and had been leased to Sagar Saha (29).Investigators said Saha told them his friend, Apurv Singh, was driving the vehicle while he was in the front passenger seat. The vehicle has been seized, and the investigation is ongoing.(With inputs from ANI)
