Chandigarh: Chandigarh remained in the grip of intense heat on Sunday, with the maximum temperature rising to 41°C, up from 40.7°C a day earlier. The city recorded conditions nearly 5 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature climbed to 28.6°C, making for a hot and uncomfortable day. However, some relief is in sight. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain accompanied by thunderstorms across the Tricity—Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula—for the next five days beginning Monday. The expected rainfall is likely to gradually bring down daytime temperatures and ease the prevailing heat. As per the forecast, the maximum temperature may hover around 41°C on Monday, dip to 40°C on Tuesday, and further settle at 39°C from Wednesday onwards. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 27°C and 29°C during this period.Despite the rain forecast, weather officials have advised residents to continue taking precautions, as heat stress is likely to persist until rainfall activity becomes more widespread. People have been urged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours. The anticipated showers may also help reduce the ongoing rainfall deficit and signal a gradual transition towards more typical monsoon conditions in the region.
