Bokaro MLA meet Union min over airport, industrial corridor project

Divy Khare| TNNBokaro: Congress MLA Shweta Singh on Wednesday yet again took up the long-pending issues of scheduled flight operations from Bokaro airport and the proposed Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC) with the Centre during her visit to New Delhi.Accompanied by state industries minister Sanjay Yadav, she met Union steel minister H D Kumaraswamy and pressed for faster progression of these projects. This was the third time in the past one-and-a-half years that the MLA met the Union minister over the same issues.Singh said, “I have urged the Centre to facilitate the launch of commercial flight services from Bokaro airport, expedite the proposed Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) under the AKIC and address employment concerns of families displaced by the Bokaro Steel Plant. The Union minister also held a meeting with SAIL chairperson Ashok Kumar Panda on these concerns. The discussions were positive.”Both the airport project and the industrial corridor have repeatedly featured in meetings of local public representatives with central authorities, but progress on the ground has remained limited. The airport project is crucial for improving regional air connectivity, while the proposed industrial corridor is expected to attract investments and create employment opportunities in the region.Singh also sought preferential consideration for local candidates in future recruitment arising from BSL plant’s expansion.
