New Delhi: Urmila Bhardwaj, a 70-year-old resident of Mamurpur village in Outer Delhi, who was killed after being trapped between two vehicles Saturday morning, was known as a deeply religious woman and an avid animal lover. Caring for stray animals and birds was an integral part of her daily routine.According to her family, Urmila’s mornings consistently followed a familiar pattern: she would first visit a local temple before spending time feeding cows, stray dogs, birds, and even ants in and around the neighbourhood.On the morning of the accident, she stepped out for this very routine when the accident took place.Expressing grief and demanding accountability, her grandson, Devesh, said, “It is very unfortunate that she died in such a manner. The driver was in a high-end car and is the son of a Haryana policeman. We want a neutral, fair probe and strict action against the accused.”Devesh, who shared a close bond with his grandmother, also voiced deep regret over his busy work schedule, which had kept them from speaking over the preceding two days.Urmila is survived by her two sons, who are employed in private and govt companies.Beyond the tragedy, the bereaved family members and locals raised serious safety concerns regarding the area. Sandhya, a resident of the area, pointed out that a nearby liquor vend often results in people driving around the area under the influence of alcohol, creating major safety hazards and severe traffic congestion on the narrow road where the accident took place.
