JALANDHAR: Three people were killed after the car they were travelling in rammed into a parked truck on the Jalandhar-Maksudan Bypass Highway in Punjab on Saturday morning, police said.Visuals from the accident site show the Swift car extensively mangled in the collision, with much of its bodywork destroyed. The windshield is shattered, the dashboard and meter are damaged and only one of the car’s doors appears to remain intact.Several police personnel and bystanders can also be seen gathered around the wreckage, while the damaged truck is parked nearby.The accident took place around 6.30am when the Swift car, carrying three occupants, crashed into the rear of a loaded Canter truck parked on the road at high speed, station house officer (SHO) Division 1 SI Rakesh Kumar said.The impact severely damaged the car, with all three occupants dying on the spot, police said. Their bodies have been sent to the Civil Hospital.The truck driver fled the scene after the accident, police said. The truck bears the marking “KTC” and has a Haryana registration number. Police are trying to contact the transport company.Based on the car’s registration details, police traced an address to the Lamme village area and are trying to contact people there. The owner of the car has not yet been identified.Traffic movement has been restored and the damaged car has been moved to the side of the road. Further investigation is underway, police said.
