NEW DELHI: Heavy rainfall is likely to continue across large parts of the country on Friday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting extremely heavy rain over parts of west and central India and heavy to very heavy rainfall across several other states.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected in many regions, while the southwest monsoon is likely to remain active over most parts of the country. Mumbai is also expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy showers possible during Friday.
IMD alert for Friday
According to the IMD, extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra and west Madhya Pradesh.Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over coastal Karnataka, east Madhya Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Saurashtra, Kutch, Uttarakhand and Vidarbha.Heavy rainfall is likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Mahe, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Uttar Pradesh.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected over Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Delhi-NCR weather tomorrow
Delhi-NCR is likely to witness rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Heavy rainfall is also expected at isolated places over Delhi and adjoining parts of Haryana.
Mumbai weather tomorrow
Mumbai is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall through Friday, with extremely heavy showers possible during the night and early morning. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also warned of occasional gusty winds across the city and suburbs.
North India under rain watch
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and east Rajasthan, while heavy rainfall is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.Jammu and Kashmir is also likely to witness rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
West and central India forecast
The IMD has forecast another spell of intense rainfall over Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra and west Madhya Pradesh, with extremely heavy rainfall likely at isolated places.Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected over east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Saurashtra and Kutch.
East and northeast India forecast
Heavy rainfall is likely over Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Gangetic West Bengal is also expected to receive rain, with heavier spells likely over the coming days.
South India forecast
Heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala, Mahe, coastal Karnataka, interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and parts of Andhra Pradesh, while thunderstorms are expected across several parts of southern India.
Monsoon update
The IMD said active monsoon conditions are likely to persist over most parts of the country during the next three to four days, with widespread rainfall continuing across northwest, central, east, northeast and peninsular India.
IMD’s latest forecast for the next few days
The weather office has indicated that heavy rainfall is likely to continue over Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and parts of the Himalayan states through the weekend. Active monsoon conditions are also expected to persist over eastern, northeastern and southern India during the next three to four days.
