Imagine it is 2007, and we are watching “Taare Zameen Par,” crying with Ishaan Awasthi for not being understood enough. The Bollywood blockbuster, in the garb of its iconic songs and theme, touched our hearts and taught us a lesson that “every child is special.” Now let’s change the script for a moment and picture Ishaan Awasthi asking ChatGPT whether I should choose a career in arts or in academics. Hilarious enough! Perhaps this Ishaan is living in the present-day world. Students have become accustomed to AI bots in a way that they have considered them to be their allies. From solving assignments to asking questions about career choices, it is a part of every life decision. But it can backfire on you. From medical questions to career, “Hey GPT tell me ….” has become the new norm today. Here’s why you shoud never ask these questions of the bot.
“Should I choose Science, Commerce, or Humanities?”
Your stream shapes the opportunities available later, but it shouldn’t be chosen because AI says one has “better scope.”Your stream moulds the opportunities available later. However, it shouldn’t be chosen because AI says one has “better scope.” It can help you research and find out the career options and salaries related to one domain. But look at Ishaan Awasthi again, and just imagine if ChatGPT had ever been able to analyse his interests and where his heart lie.A chatbot cannot judge which subjects excite you, where your strengths lie, or what kind of learner you are. Choosing a stream should be based on self-awareness, not AI-generated rankings.
“Should I prepare for a government job or corporate world?”
Both paths demand very different personalities. One requires years of preparation for a highly competitive examination. The other often rewards adaptability, networking, and continuous skill-building.Suppose you are that IAS aspirant who has failed many times. Searching this question on GPT can give you many options. The main point to comprehend here is that GPT is based on algorithms and prompts, and it won’t be able to analyse your hard work, or your future goals. What exactly makes you feel good about yourself? How do you want to lead your life? ChatGPT cannot measure your patience, resilience, or career aspirations well enough to make this decision.
“Should I become a software engineer because AI is taking over?”
Many students are choosing or avoiding technology careers because of AI. Paradoxically, asking the bots themselves whether they should continue with these careers. But, you need to understand that ChatGPT cannot accurately predict what the job market will look like in next five or ten years from now. Don’t choose, or reject, a profession based solely on today’s AI trends.
“Should I prepare for JEE, NEET or CLAT?”
These entrance exams require years of focused preparation.Choosing one simply because ChatGPT says it matches your interests could lead to regret later.Teachers, mentors and career counsellors who know your academic strengths can provide much better guidance. AI can explain the syllabus and earning potential, but it cannot tell whether you’ll enjoy arguing cases in court or analysing financial statements.Only you can discover that through exploration.
“Should I turn my hobby into my career?”
Being good at something doesn’t always mean you will enjoy it professionally. AI can give you answers based on your prompts. But the reality is often very different. You need to ask these questions to someone who has been in the career for a long time.
