New Delhi: A 45-year-old Rapid Action Force (RAF) staffer sustained grievous injuries after he was allegedly assaulted and attacked with swords and sticks by a protesting crowd in Connaught Place Tuesday.“An FIR has been registered in connection with the attack and police are analysing video footage to identify those involved,” said DCP (New Delhi) Sachin Sharma. The RAF personnel, Ishwar Singh, was hospitalised Tuesday night. A purported video of the incident shows a group assaulting one of his colleagues before Singh intervenes to rescue him. A scuffle then breaks out. He claimed the group included 8-10 Nihang Sikhs carrying swords. As the cops tried to stop them from waving their swords, an argument broke out.Others present at the spot soon joined the confrontation, following which stone-pelting began from behind the crowd, he alleged. “They were brandishing swords, and during the stone-pelting, one stone struck me near my eye,” the inspector claimed, adding there was swelling near his eyes.
