New Delhi: With the arrest of two men, police have busted an inter-state mule SIM racket that allegedly supplied fraudulently procured SIM cards to cyber criminals operating from Mewat, Haryana.The accused, identified as Manoj, 22, and Yash Saini, 23, were arrested from Ferozpur Jhirka in Mewat on July 22 following technical surveillance and field intelligence.The arrests stemmed from the investigation into a cyber fraud in which a complainant lost around Rs 1.1 lakh after receiving a message from a fraudster posing as an acquaintance named Manoj. DCP (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh said, “Claiming he had mistakenly transferred money while paying a relative’s hospital bills, the fraudster convinced the victim to return the amount by scanning a QR code. The transfer was later found to be part of a cyber fraud, following which an FIR was registered.”During questioning, Manoj allegedly admitted to selling SIM cards registered in his own name to Saini. He told police that he had supplied around 10 to 15 SIM cards. Police said Saini procured SIM cards locally, manipulated subscriber details to evade detection, and supplied them to cyber crime syndicates operating out of Mewat.Cops are verifying the duo’s involvement in other cyber crime cases and are working to identify other members of the syndicate.
