Lucknow: To mark the end of the mango season, a cultural event titled Dastan-e-Aam was held at Karwaan Studio on Saturday. Storyteller Himanshu Bajpai used the traditional art of Dastangoi to share the history of the fruit.The performance covered everything from popular mango varieties and the cities famous for them, to the well-known stories of how historical poets loved the fruit.Himanshu brought humor to the stage while discussing mango varieties. For Langda aam, he explained that despite its name implying a person who cannot walk properly, Langda is actually the “Milkha Singh of mangoes” because it sells out so quickly.He spoke about the deep love for mangoes among various Hindi and Urdu poets. For Mirza Ghalib, he mentioned that researchers have dedicated entire studies to Ghalib’s love for the fruit.He also shared a story about Suryakant Tripathi ‘Nirala,’ noting that Nirala could identify the exact tree in his hometown a mango came from just by tasting it.
