JPC members meet Delhi CM

New Delhi: A Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) examining the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025. and two related laws met chief minister Rekha Gupta at the Delhi secretariat Wednesday as part of its study visit to the capital.Led by its chairperson, MP Aparajita Sarangi, the committee briefed the chief minister on the key provisions of the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025. Copies of the proposed legislations were also handed over to the chief minister, CM office said in a statement.The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill seeks to introduce provisions relating to the continuation in office of elected executives facing prolonged detention in serious criminal cases. The JPC has been constituted to examine the proposed amendments and gather views from stakeholders before submitting its recommendations to Parliament.CM Gupta said democratic governance was guided not only by constitutional provisions but also by ethics, accountability and public trust, and briefed the parliamentary panel members on Delhi’s unique administrative structure, constitutional framework and measures being undertaken by the govt to strengthen transparency and accountability in governance.An official said that CM Gupta told the committee that the proposed legislations represented an important step towards reinforcing accountability, transparency and constitutional morality in public life.The panel members also interacted with officials and discussed issues relating to governance and administration in the national capital. “The JPC appreciated the suggestions and administrative experiences shared during the meeting and described the inputs as useful for its deliberations,” said an official.The members from the panel included Anurag Thakur, Asaduddin Owaisi, Indra Hang Subba, Brij Lal, Brijmohan Agrawal and Manan Kumar Mishra, besides senior officials of the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
