Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan has backed young Punjab pacer Gurnoor Brar as the most promising fast-bowling talent in India’s current crop. With Jasprit Bumrah unavailable due to injury, India are looking at younger options to strengthen their pace attack.The 26-year-old Brar, who stands 6-foot-5, was surprisingly included in India’s Test squad in June despite having played only a few First-Class matches and having limited IPL experience. He later made his ODI debut against Afghanistan and has taken 11 wickets in six matches.Former India pacer Zaheer Khan believes Brar has the qualities to enjoy a long and successful career. He also feels India made the right decision by moving the youngster through the system quickly.“It’s good to see a young crop of fast bowlers coming through that bowl high speeds. I believe Gurnoor Brar is the one who has the ability to have a good and lengthy career. It’s good that he has been fast-tracked. Even when I spent some time with him, I could see exciting potential in him. We have to wait and see how his career materialises eventually, but on potential, he has impressed me the most,” Khan told veteran journalist Vimal Kumar.Brar also impressed during India A’s recent tour of Sri Lanka, taking 10 wickets in the first match at Galle.He is currently playing a three-day practice game against Sri Lanka Cricket XI, where he has taken three wickets and scored an unbeaten 36 off just 18 balls, including four sixes.With Bumrah injured, Brar could make his Test debut when India face Sri Lanka in the first Test at Galle. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Auqib Nabi are the other pace options in India’s squad for the two-match series starting August 15.
