Delhi Police head constable booked for rape on marriage pretext, court orders FIR

NEW DELHI: A Delhi Police head constable has been booked on charges of allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marriage after a city court directed the registration of an FIR. The accused has since been line attached pending investigation, sources said on Tuesday.The FIR was registered at Burari police station on the woman’s complaint after the court ordered police to initiate criminal proceedings.According to the complaint, the accused was in a live-in relationship with the woman and allegedly established physical relations with her repeatedly after promising to marry her, later refusing to do so.Sources said both the complainant and the accused are married but were living separately from their respective families at the time of the alleged incident.The woman subsequently approached the court, seeking action against the police personnel.Acting on the court’s directions, Burari police registered an FIR in the matter.Following the registration of the case, the head constable has been “line attached”, sources said.Further investigation is underway.(With PTI inputs)
