CBI arrests 3 in bribery case

New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three accused, including two public servants—a chief materials manager and a senior clerk of Northern Railway (HQ)—and a private person in a bribery case.The arrested accused have been identified as Narender Singh, chief materials manager; Lenin Sharma, senior clerk; and Shariq Ali.CBI registered a case on July 3 against six accused, including a chief materials manager, a deputy chief materials manager and a senior clerk of Northern Railway (HQ), a private company and two of its representatives, besides public servants and private persons.It was alleged that the accused public servants at Northern Railway (HQ), in connivance with representatives of the private company, indulged in corrupt practices by extending undue favours in the award of railway tenders to the company in exchange for illegal gratification, in violation of the prescribed procurement procedures and norms.During a trap operation, the CBI recovered Rs 1 lakh in bribe money allegedly handed over by a representative of the private company to the accused chief materials manager of Northern Railway (HQ).Searches were conducted at multiple locations in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr and Kanpur, leading to the recovery of several incriminating documents and digital devices.
