New Delhi: Twelve people were rescued after a major fire broke out in a slum cluster in central Delhi’s Takia Kale Khan late Monday night. The blaze engulfed around 30 huts.Delhi Fire Service (DFS) got a call regarding the fire at 11.22 pm from Balmiki Basti in Takia Kale Khan, following which 24 fire tenders and more than 120 fire personnel were rushed to the spot. Authorities said that other agencies, including the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and power distribution company BSES, were informed and mobilised to assist in the emergency response.By the time the police and firefighters reached the spot, the flames had spread through furniture, timber and other combustible materials stored in and around the cluster, posing a serious threat to residents and neighbouring structures.
