Kolkata: A 35-year-old woman returning home with her 39-year-old husband on the latter ‘s cycle was allegedly molested in the wee hours of Thursday, and her clothes pulled at by two bike-borne men.When the victim ‘s husband tried to object, he was allegedly assaulted. However, passers-by responded to the couple ‘s frantic call for help, leading to the accused escaping from the spot.Police registered an FIR and initiated a probe after the incident was reported on the eastern flank service road on the EM Bypass near the Mukundapur crossing. The incident was reported around 1 am.According to the complaint filed at the Survey Park PS by the survivor ‘s husband, the couple was heading towards Sammelani Park, where they would retire for the night. The husband was riding a bicycle, while his wife was seated on the rear carrier. As they reached Mukundapur crossing, two men riding a bike approached them from behind. The accused suddenly pulled the woman ‘s ‘orna ‘ from behind, almost disbalancing both the cycle ‘s occupants.When her husband stopped the cycle, the two physically assaulted him, hitting him with slaps and punches. The couple raised an alarm and shouted for help, attracting the attention of passers-by, who in turn informed cops on duty. Upon seeing people approach the spot, the two fled from the scene.The complainants stated that they had no prior acquaintance with the attackers. However, the man claimed that he could identify both if brought before him, as he had a clear view of them before they fled the spot.The couple from the Raidighi PS area of South 24 Parganas are now living at Sammilani Park near Ambuja Gate 4.Cops registered an FIR, and charges wereframed based on allegations of wrongful restraint and physical assault committed in furtherance of common intention.Investigating officers have started scanning footage from closed-circuit television cameras installed along the EM Bypass, the service roads and near the Mukundapur crossing to trace the route taken by the accused and identify the registration number of the motorcycle.Statements from the victims and witnesses are being recorded to establish the sequence of events. No arrests have been made in connection with the case so far.
