Haridwar: Six people have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl in Haridwar. The incident has led to tension in the area as the survivor and the accused belong to different communities.The crime took place five days ago in a forest area, where the girl had gone there with a friend. According to police, the friend was beaten up by the accused.SP Rural Shekhar Suyal told TOI: “It happened on July 12 when the survivor went to a forest area with her friends, where the accused were drinking alcohol. They beat the survivor’s friend while one of them raped the girl and the other assisted.”Suyal added: “An FIR was registered the next day. Six local residents were arrested on Saturday, and were sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.”
