₹1,000 cr Yamuna revival plan as govt conducts  clean up at 28 ghats

Times News NetworkNew Delhi: Delhi govt is fast-tracking Yamuna rejuvenation projects worth over ₹1,000 crore as part of its efforts to restore the river’s health, CM Rekha Gupta said Sunday, while leading a cleanliness drive across 28 Yamuna ghats and riverfront locations in the capital.Participating in the campaign at Geeta Colony Ghat, Gupta said while govt was undertaking large-scale efforts to clean the river, public cooperation was equally important. She urged people not to throw plastic waste, garbage, flowers, garlands, idols or other religious offerings into the river.Water minister Parvesh Verma took part in a similar drive at Hathi Ghat where he reiterated govt’s promise to clean ‘Maa Yamuna’.CM said among the major initiatives related to Yamuna was the construction of 12 decentralised sewage treatment plants in Najafgarh under the AMRUT scheme at a cost of ₹860 crore. Govt was also upgrading the Keshopur sewage treatment plant and promoting rainwater harvesting and other water conservation measures, she added.Officials said large quantities of waste, including broken idols, discarded clothes, plastic-wrapped worship material and other garbage, were removed from riverbanks during the campaign.
