Greenwood High has announced that 16 of its teams have qualified for the Tournament of Champions at Yale University following their performance at the World Scholar’s Cup Global Round 2026 held in Kuala Lumpur. The final stage of the international academic competition will take place at Yale University in the United States later this year.The school’s delegation of 52 students competed alongside around 2,000 scholars from 26 countries at the Global Round, which was organised around the theme, “Are We There Yet?”. According to the school, the students secured a combined total of 215 medals and eight trophies across multiple events, earning qualification for the concluding stage of the competition.Strong performance across international academic eventsThe World Scholar’s Cup is an international academic tournament that evaluates students across a range of disciplines through debates, collaborative writing, quizzes and analytical challenges. Students participate in teams of three, with qualification for the Tournament of Champions reserved for teams meeting the prescribed performance standards during the Global Rounds.The Kuala Lumpur event focused on analytical thinking, communication, teamwork and subject knowledge while bringing together participants from different countries in a competitive academic environment.
Students secure notable rankingsAmong the individual achievements, Grade 9 student Urvi Singh finished as part of the Rank 1 Qualifying Team at the Kuala Lumpur Global Round. The school stated that her performance across multiple events contributed to the highest overall scholar and team ranking.In the Senior Division, the team comprising Anoushka Raj Kumar, Anahatha Tripathi and Diya Arun, all from Grade 9, secured the 16th Rank Qualifying Team position. Their results were based on performances in Debate, Collaborative Writing, Scholar’s Bowl and the Scholar’s Challenge.The Junior Division students also contributed to the school’s overall tally by securing medals and trophies across different competitive categories.Qualification for Tournament of ChampionsThe qualification means Greenwood High’s 16 teams will participate in the Tournament of Champions at Yale University later this year.
