Weather tomorrow: IMD warns of rain, thunderstorms across 14 states; gusty winds up to 50 kmph likely

NEW DELHI: The IMD has forecast rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across several parts of the states on Monday, with varying intensity from light showers in Delhi to heavy rainfall in hill and northeastern regions. While Delhi is expected to see light rain and thunderstorms, several states including Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh and parts of southern India may witness stronger weather activity.IMD alert across statesThe IMD has issued rainfall, thunderstorm and lightning alerts across multiple states, with weather conditions expected to remain active due to monsoon advancement and developing systems. Gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph have been warned in parts of Rajasthan, while some hill and northeastern regions remain under heavy rain alerts.Heavy rain and thunderstorm warningHeavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, especially in Lower Dibang Valley and nearby regions, where an orange alert has been issued. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected in Uttarakhand between June 30 and July 2, while Rajasthan’s western districts remain under thunderstorm and wind warnings between June 29 and July 2.Wind and lightning alertThe IMD has warned of gusty winds and thunderstorms across several regions, with wind speeds in some parts of western Rajasthan expected to reach up to 50 kmph. Lightning activity is also likely in hilly and northeastern regions, increasing risks of landslides and flash floods.Delhi-NCR weather forecast:The IMD has forecast light showers between July 1 and July 2. Delhi is expected to remain partly cloudy over the next five days, with sunshine during the day and cloud cover developing later.“There is a possibility of very light to light rain in the coming days, with weather conditions intensifying on Tuesday and Wednesday,” an IMD official said, adding that an alert has been issued in this regard.According to the IMD forecast, temperatures in Delhi are expected to remain around 35–37 degrees Celsius by Wednesday.Uttar Pradesh: Several parts of the state are expected to witness rainfall and thunderstorms over the next few days, even as heatwave-like conditions persist in some areas. Bihar and Jharkhand: Rain and thunderstorms are likely in several districts as monsoon activity spreads. Odisha: Weather conditions remain favourable for rain and storm activity in parts of the state. Rajasthan: Western Rajasthan is under alert for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, while eastern parts may also see similar conditions till July 2. Uttarakhand: Thunderstorms with lightning and rain are likely between June 30 and July 2. Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir: Thunderstorms are expected in several regions, according to IMD projections. Northeast India: Heavy rainfall is expected to continue in Arunachal Pradesh, with some areas under orange alert due to intense rain activity.Monsoon updateThe IMD said conditions are becoming favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance further into Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the next three to four days.Satellite imagery from INSAT-3DS shows dense monsoon cloud cover across central India, the Bay of Bengal, northeastern states and parts of southern India. However, large parts of northwest India, including Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, continue to see relatively clear skies.Meteorologists said the monsoon is gradually moving northward, but key weather systems needed for widespread rainfall are still developing. Experts also noted that a pause in monsoon activity is linked to the absence of strong low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal.A large tropical system is expected to form over the eastern Indian Ocean and move towards the Bay of Bengal in the coming days, which may strengthen monsoon activity and trigger heavier rainfall in early July.IMD’s latest forecast for the next few daysThe IMD’s latest forecast indicates active monsoon conditions across several parts of India over the next few days, with rainfall likely to intensify further as weather systems strengthen and the monsoon continues its northward progress.
