NEW DELHI: Heavy rainfall is likely to continue across parts of northeast India, the west coast and southern states on Tuesday, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected in several parts of north, central and east India, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).Heatwave conditions are also likely to persist in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha.
IMD alert for Tuesday
The weather office has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Konkan, Goa and Telangana.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are likely over Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan and Telangana.Bihar and West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph.
Delhi-NCR weather tomorrow
Delhi-NCR is likely to witness isolated thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph. Similar conditions are expected over Haryana and Punjab.
Mumbai weather tomorrow
Mumbai is likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds over the next few days. The monsoon is also expected to advance over Mumbai shortly, with the IMD likely to announce its onset once all required parameters are met.
Northeast under rain watch
Heavy rainfall is likely across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, as well as Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. The region is expected to continue receiving widespread rainfall over the next few days.
Rain forecast for west and south India
Konkan, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Telangana are likely to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places. Rain-bearing weather systems are expected to keep conditions favourable for continued rainfall across parts of peninsular India.
Thunderstorm warning for north and central India
Thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and gusty winds has been forecast across parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Odisha.
Heatwave alert
Despite increasing rainfall activity in many parts of the country, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha on Tuesday.
IMD warning
The IMD has warned that heavy rainfall may trigger localised flooding, waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic disruptions and reduced visibility. Thunderstorms and strong winds may also cause damage to trees, power lines and vulnerable structures.
IMD’s latest forecast for the next few days
According to the weather office, rainfall activity is likely to remain active over northeast India, the west coast and parts of southern India during the week. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue in parts of the northeast, while East Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha may continue to experience isolated heatwave conditions.
