Weather tomorrow: IMD warns of heavy rain across several regions; yellow alert for Delhi-NCR

NEW DELHI: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue across large parts of the country on Sunday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of extremely heavy rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.Heavy rain is also likely across parts of north, east, northeast, central and southern India, while thunderstorms and gusty winds are forecast in several regions.

IMD’s rain alert for Sunday

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated places expected to witness extremely heavy rain.Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.Heavy rainfall is forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha and west Uttar Pradesh.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely across parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, central Maharashtra, Marathwada and north interior Karnataka, while several other regions are expected to witness thunderstorms and lightning.

Delhi-NCR weather tomorrow

Delhi-NCR is likely to witness light rain on Sunday, with hot and humid conditions expected to persist. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the city.

North India forecast

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and east Uttar Pradesh, while heavy rainfall is expected over west Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Light to moderate rain is also likely over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan over the next few days.

East and northeast India forecast

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy rain.Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over Assam and Meghalaya, while heavy rain is forecast over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Central and west India forecast

Heavy rainfall is likely over Chhattisgarh and east Madhya Pradesh, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh.Widespread rainfall is also likely over Konkan and Goa, with scattered rain forecast over Gujarat, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra and Kutch.

South India forecast

Heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala and coastal Karnataka, while rain is also expected over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, north interior Karnataka, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are likely over parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka.

IMD’s latest forecast for next few days

The weather office said widespread rainfall activity is likely to continue across the western Himalayan region, east and northeast India, parts of central India and the west coast over the next three to four days.Heavy rainfall is expected to persist over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya, while rainfall activity is also likely to continue over Odisha, Chhattisgarh and parts of the southern peninsula.
