Sudha Murty allocates MPLAD funds for Hampi Heritage restoration

Hosapete (Vijayanagara): Rajya Sabha MP and Infosys Foundation founder-chairperson Sudha Murty has allocated Rs 4.9 crore from her Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund for restoration works at the Unesco World Heritage Site of Hampi.Murty visited Hampi on Friday to review the proposed conservation projects. She was briefed on the restoration plans by deputy commissioner Kavitha S Mannikeri, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) superintending archaeologist K Ramakrishna Reddy, and other officials.The DC said that Rs 4.4 crore from the MPLAD allocation will be utilised to restore and reassemble the row mantapas along the North and South Bazaars in front of the Virupaksha Temple. The remaining Rs 50 lakh will be used for the restoration of the Kalyana Mantapa at the Vijaya Vittala Temple.She said the process of sanctioning the funds has already been initiated. Murty, she added, expressed deep concern for the preservation of Hampi and assured the administration of additional financial support for the World Heritage Site in the future.Ramakrishna Reddy said that conserving Hampi’s monuments is both a challenging and essential responsibility. He described the MPLAD allocation as a significant boost to ongoing conservation efforts and expressed confidence that the restoration works would be completed within 12 months through the effective utilisation of the funds.
