Balasore: Unidentified miscreants allegedly broke into a locked house in Baringia Shasan village under Khaira police station limits in Balasore district in the early hours of Thursday and decamped with gold ornaments worth over Rs 20 lakh and Rs 80,000 in cash.According to sources, homeowner Ananta Kumar Mishra and his wife were sleeping in a nearby mud house, while their concrete house was locked.The miscreants allegedly broke open the lock of the grill gate, entered the house and ransacked the rooms before fleeing with gold ornaments and cash. Around 3 am, Mishra noticed that the grill gate was open. On entering the house, he found that valuables had been stolen, and raised an alert before informing police.Meanwhile, police recovered two abandoned motorcycles and burglary tools, including a crowbar, cutter machine, drill machine accessories and a sharp weapon, about 2km away. They are examining whether these are linked to the burglary at Baringia village.Four unidentified youths, who were allegedly riding the two motorcycles, had raised the suspicion of some local residents, returning from Bhubaneswar, who questioned them. The bikers allegedly threatened the residents with a firearm before fleeing the spot. While escaping, they abandoned two motorcycles near Makhanpur Bazaar. Police suspect the motorcycles may also have been stolen.Khaira police has launched an investigation.
