Road cave-in on Delhi-Dehradun Expressway fixed after heavy rain
The repair comes after videos showing potholes and the damaged stretch of the expressway circulated widely on social media.

NEW DELHI: Repair work on a stretch of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway has been completed after a road surface cave-in was detected following heavy overnight rainfall, officials said on Thursday.According to officials, a route patrolling team noticed the cave-in at around 6. 30am on Wednesday at kilometre 55 after continuous heavy rain during the night.“The issue was immediately attended to and rectified on priority,” officials said.The repair comes after videos showing potholes and the damaged stretch of the expressway circulated widely on social media, prompting criticism over the condition of the newly inaugurated corridor.Earlier in the day, the Congress had alleged that the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway had developed massive potholes within two months of its inauguration and accused the Centre of corruption in infrastructure projects.The party claimed the issue reflected poor construction quality and alleged that similar incidents were being reported from infrastructure projects across the country.Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor on April 14, 2026. The 213-km, six-lane access-controlled expressway, built at a cost of over Rs 12,000 crore, passes through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and is aimed at reducing travel time between Delhi and Dehradun.At the inauguration, the Prime Minister had said the corridor would reduce travel time and transportation costs while boosting trade, logistics and regional connectivity.
