New Delhi: Several parts of Delhi received moderate showers Wednesday, leading to a drastic drop in the temperature and giving the city its best air quality since last Sept.With two consecutive days of rain, the air quality improved from moderate to satisfactory at 59 against 113 a day earlier, on a scale of 0 to 500. The city saw a better AQI at 58 on Sept 4, 2025.Very light to light rain is likely to continue, with isolated areas expected to receive moderate rain with a thunderstorm Thursday, for which India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert.Persistent showers during most of Wednesday afternoon over a large part of the city led to about a seven-degree drop in the maximum temperature over the past 24 hours. In some areas, the maximum even dropped below 30 degrees Celsius.At base station Safdarjung, the maximum temperature was 30.8 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal, against 37.2 degrees a day earlier. The minimum temperature was 25.4 degrees Celsius, almost three notches below normal, against 30 degrees a day earlier. At Aya Nagar, the maximum temperature was 28.3 degrees Celsius while it was 29.4 degrees Celsius at Ridge. The maximum temperature Thursday is expected to be 30-32 degrees Celsius, which may spike to 34-38 by Friday.Between 8.30am and 5.30pm, Safdarjung recorded 26mm rainfall. Najafgarh saw 38mm rainfall, Jharoda Kalan 32.5mm, Pusa 30.5mm, Lodhi Road 30mm, Palam 27.9mm, Mayur Vihar and Janakpuri 26.5mm each, Aya Nagar 22.2mm, Chhatarpur and Narayana 16.5mm each, and Ridge 11.8mm. Unlike Tuesday, no area in the city witnessed heavy rain.
