NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police will not take any adverse legal action against individuals who participated in the Cockroach Janta Party-led protests in the national capital, though those with criminal antecedents will continue to face action, according to a Delhi government order.As per news agency PTI, the Delhi home department, in its order, said that in cases where arrests or detentions had already been made, the process of reviewing the arrests and releasing those arrested would be undertaken expeditiously.“Government of NCT of Delhi does not propose to take any further adverse action against the individuals involved in the protests, and the matter shall be treated as closed without any future proceedings on this account,” the home department said in its order.The order further stated that no adverse legal action would be taken by any police authority within the National Capital Territory of Delhi against individuals who participated in the protests.However, the protection would not extend to persons with criminal antecedents, as mandated by a recent Supreme Court order, it said.The Delhi Police has registered 13 FIRs in connection with violence during the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march organised by the Cockroach Janta Party on July 20.The Delhi government’s decision comes amid allegations by CJP leaders that students who participated in the protests were being harassed and threatened with arrest. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke had warned that the youth could launch a fresh agitation if the government failed to address their concerns.Speaking to reporters after returning to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Wednesday, Dipke said the government should stop troubling students who participated in the protests seeking the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.“The government should conduct itself well now. The blood of students was spilled on the streets on July 20 (during the march to Parliament). It was really bad. Wasn’t it enough that the students are still being troubled? In many states, police are visiting the houses of students and threatening to arrest them,” he claimed, according to news agency PTI.“These students are not terrorists. They are the future of our country. If the future of the country is troubled in such a way, then just as Dharmendra Pradhan had to step down….tomorrow, we will go and change the government if it did not fall in line,” the CJP founder said.Dipke also demanded action against those who ordered the use of pellet guns against protesters at Jantar Mantar.“Whether it be Amit Shah (or anyone else), action should be taken against the person who gave orders to fire pellet guns,” he said.The CJP founder said the government should not assume that students’ anger had subsided following Pradhan’s exit and warned that a fresh agitation could be launched on a larger scale.“If needed, we will launch a fresh agitation on a much bigger scale,” Dipke said.
