Nagpur: A speeding Maharashtra State Road Transport (ST) Corporation bus collided with a milk van near LAD Square on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of one senior citizen and serious injuries to two others.Passersby said that after being hit by the speeding bus, the milk van overturned and fell on Sunil Jadhav, 65, Sunil Guddhe, 62, and Shailendra Kingaonkar, 62. Jadhav, a resident of Corporation Colony, succumbed to his injuries.The accident occurred around 6.45am when Guddhe, a resident of Gandhi Nagar, along with his friends Kingaonkar and Jadhav, both residents of Corporation Colony, were on a routine morning walk.According to the complaint filed by Guddhe, the ST bus, driven by Purushottam Kondhalkar, 45, was proceeding at high speed from the Shankar Nagar side towards Ambajheri T-point. The bus, from Imamwada Depot, was heading towards Kanholibara. The bus hit a milk van at LAD Square. The impact caused the van to overturn and fall on the pedestrians standing on the roadside.Jadhav sustained severe injuries to both legs and was rushed to a private hospital along with the other two victims. Doctors declared Jadhav dead during treatment. Guddhe and Kingaonkar are undergoing treatment.Police officials said that both vehicles were being driven at high speed and collided at the busy junction. The ST bus was towed to Bajaj Nagar police station, while the driver, Kondhalkar, was detained. A relief bus was arranged to ferry the passengers to Kanholibara.Cops have registered a case against the bus driver under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash and negligent driving causing death. Investigations are underway to determine the exact sequence of events.
