NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have filed an FIR with 13 charges, including attempted murder, over the violence that erupted near Kartavya Path on July 20 during the CJP’s “Sansad Chalo” march.The FIR, lodged at Kartavya Path police station on an inspector’s complaint, says a large group of protesters tried to push past barricades meant to keep them out of the high-security zone around Parliament. Police sources claim the protesters intended to kill officers while trying to break through.According to the complaint, the trouble started on Rafi Marg during the march toward Parliament. When police stopped the crowd, protesters allegedly threw stones, slippers and other objects at them and attacked several officers directly, injuring many.

Police vehicles and other government property were also damaged, the FIR states.Officials say more than 200 police personnel and over 60 protesters were injured in the clashes.Police are now going through CCTV footage, mobile videos and other evidence to identify those involved. The investigation is still ongoing.The 13 charges fall under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 109(1) for attempted murder, along with sections for rioting, unlawful assembly, assaulting public servants, obstructing officials on duty, and damaging public property.The CJP has been running its protest since June 20, when it started at Jantar Mantar, demanding accountability for alleged irregularities in competitive exams and reforms to the education system.
