Jaipur: Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully Sunday accused the BJP-led state govt of failing to protect Dalits, alleging that rising atrocities, administrative apathy and cuts in welfare measures were pushing them further to the sidelines. He claimed that perpetrators enjoyed political protection while victims struggled to secure justice at police stations.Jully made the remarks while addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the youth and women’s executive of the Akhil Bharatiya Bairwa Mahasabha at Surabhi Sadan of Pinjrapol Gaushala, Tonk Road, where he was the chief guest.Questioning the state govt’s policies and the law and order situation, the Congress leader alleged that incidents of assault on Dalits, illegal occupation of land, crimes against women and false criminal cases occurred repeatedly across the state. He further claimed that police were not registering FIRs in many cases and that victims seeking justice were themselves being jailed instead of receiving assistance.Speaking on social justice, Jully alleged that the govt was undermining the future of Dalit youth by failing to fill backlog vacancies in govt jobs and reducing allocations for scholarships and hostels meant for Dalit students. Emphasising the role of education in social advancement, he said education remained the most effective means of empowering deprived communities. However, he alleged that govt policies were depriving youth from marginalised sections of equal opportunities.
