New Delhi: A member of Rohit Choudhary gang, wanted for attacking an inmate inside Tihar jail in 2023, has been arrested by Delhi Police in Rajasthan.The accused, Rahul Rawat, 28, a resident of Sangam Vihar, was declared a proclaimed offender in four criminal cases after absconding following his release from jail and repeatedly skipping court appearances.DCP (special cell) Narra Chaitanya said, “Rawat was among a group of inmates who attacked another prisoner with improvised pointed weapons inside Tihar jail on May 29, 2023. The victim, linked to Randeep Bhati gang and later Himanshu alias Bhau gang, survived after jail staff intervened. He was later killed in an unrelated encounter with Uttar Pradesh STF in Feb this year.”The special cell had intensified surveillance on absconding gang members involved in heinous crimes and received information about Rawat’s hideout in Udaipur, police said. They tracked him for over 700 km and arrested him on July 18 before bringing him to Delhi.Police said Rawat was also wanted in several other cases, including robbery, kidnapping, witness intimidation and illegal possession of firearms.
