New Delhi: Delhi forest department has now imposed a fine of Rs 15.3 lakh on DCM Limited for illegal felling of three trees and victimisation of 67 trees at Central Square Complex on Manohar Lal Khurana Marg in 2024. DCM Limited has also been asked to plant 50 saplings of native species as compensatory plantation.The forest department said it received a complaint from Deepak Aggarwal on April 4, 2024, and inspections dated April 5, 2024; April 26, 2024; May 5, 2024; and May 4, 2026, were conducted by the officials, and it was reported that tree offence has been committed at the alleged site by the land-owning agency, DCM Limited, in terms of felling, pruning, head backing, root damaging and bark damaging of trees. Accordingly, an offence case was booked under the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994.“It is also observed that the trees at the site seem adversely affected by termites and other pests, and no proper attention is paid towards the same. DCM Limited is directed to carry out proper soil treatment under the supervision of an expert horticulturist at the site. It is also directed to get the soil samples of the site be tested from any govt authorised agency and to prepare a preservation plan for the existing trees at the site,” said the forest department in an order dated June 17.An official of DCM Limited said, “Some trees were harmed by workers who were not sensitised about the work. We will take permission from the forest department in the future before undertaking any work.”
