'Cold-blooded murderer': Arvind Kejriwal says Donald Trump will be held accountable for Indian lives lost in Gulf

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of remaining silent over the US attack on a commercial vessel in the Gulf, which killed three Indians. In a post on X, Kejriwal said US President Donald Trump would be held accountable for the loss of Indian lives. “Donald Trump, you will be held accountable for the Indian lives lost. You are a cowardly, cold-blooded murderer. It is unfortunate that PM Modi remains silent, but soon, India will have a strong Prime Minister who will make you pay for your misdeeds,” he said in the post. In the accompanying video, Kejriwal said the US had attacked commercial ships carrying Indian nationals on three different days, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi remained silent. He added that there were 68 Indian nationals on the three ships. He also criticised Prime Minister Modi’s response to US President Donald Trump’s congratulatory message on becoming India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister. Kejirwal said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave a “threatening” response when External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke with him to protest US attack on the commercial ship. “When our Foreign Minister called their Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. America threatened us again. They didn’t express regret over the deaths of three Indians; they didn’t express sorrow that three Indians died. Instead, he threatened our country’s Foreign Minister, saying that if America’s orders aren’t followed, we will have to face the consequences,” Kejriwal said.Kejriwal said people were angry over the US action and the government’s response. He said countries like Russia and China would have taken the United States to task if any of their nationals were killed, and asked what “compulsion” prevented PM Modi from speaking on the matter. The Congress has also criticised the government over its response to the US military action on a commercial ship in which three Indians were killed.Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of remaining silent over the death of three Indian mariners, saying that “silence is not a substitute for accountability.” In a post on X, Kharge accused the Modi government of “belittling India’s global standing and sovereignty” and alleged that “national interests are being surrendered on a daily basis”. “Even as the mortal remains of Indian seafarers killed in Oman by American action arrive in India, I join the nation in mourning the loss of the three Indian seafarers. Three days have passed since this tragic incident. Yet, there has been no public statement at all or even a condolence message from PM @narendramodi The nation was waiting for it, Modi ji,” Kharge said in a post on X. “You spoke about ‘will not allow country to bow’ but no proof is now required that you have belittled India’s global standing and sovereignty. Our National interests is being surrendered on a daily basis. And you have the audacity to sugarcoat it with the ‘Vishwaguru’ narrative,” he added. Kharge said India used to be a “Vishwaguru” when it maintained its strategic autonomy and followed the policy of Non-Alignment. “The world listened to us when all previous governments followed this consistent policy of not surrendering. Indian lives cannot be treated as an afterthought in matters of foreign policy. At a time when serious questions remain unanswered, silence is not a substitute for accountability. The nation deserves clarity, and the families deserve justice,” he said.(With agency inputs)
