Cochin Devaswom Board’s visual fireworks plan gets support from temples
Fireworks displays are conducted as visual treats at Olympics and many other global events

Thrissur: Encouraged by the positive response from the temples under it, Cochin Devaswom Board (CDB) has decided to proceed with the proposal to reduce the noise levels in the fireworks displays and make them more of a visual treat, thereby diminishing the possibilities of accidents. The board convened a meeting of the representatives of advisory committees of various temples under it on Monday. CDB president K Ravindran said he was overwhelmed by the support from the temple advisory committee representatives who attended the meeting, though some had mentioned that there must not be any breach of the temple rituals. There are over 400 temples under the CDB, and about 150 of them conduct festivals with fireworks displays.Over 200 representatives attended the meeting. Fireworks displays are conducted as visual treats at Olympics and many other global events. Festivals titled ‘Thrissur Pooram’ are celebrated even in places like Dubai, and there also fireworks displays are visual entertainments. An initiative to reduce the noise levels was made during the fireworks display at the recently concluded festival at Koodalmanikyam temple, Irinjalakuda, the CDB president said.He said detailed discussions on the issue by including the officials and technical experts, will be convened soon. “We don’t have the expertise in the technological aspects of developing fireworks with less noise and more visual effects, and we have to rope in the experts for this,’’ he said.
