CM proposes cloth bank at metro stations

New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s 32nd foundation day on Sunday proposed setting up cloth banks at Metro stations to facilitate the recycling of used garments.Gupta suggested linking the initiative with women’s self-help groups to promote environmental sustainability while also generating livelihood opportunities.Describing the metro as Delhi’s “lifeline”, she said it is not just a mode of transport but a symbol of efficiency, discipline and trust.She said the commitment of employees and support staff has made the system a globally recognised model of urban transit.A day earlier, Gupta announced seven new corridors under Phase V (B). “Work under Phase IV and Phase V is progressing rapidly, and preparations are under way to begin construction on seven new corridors under Phase V (B),” she said.DMRC gave its annual awards at the event. The Lajpat Nagar station was awarded as the best station and Najafgarh as the best depot.The event was attended by Union minister of state for housing and urban affairs Tokhan Sahu, secretary (MoHUA) Katikithala Srinivas and officials from the embassy of Japan and senior officials of DMRC.
