City sees light rain, more showers ahead

New Delhi: Some areas in Delhi received very light rain Friday. With no significant rain activity, the heat index or feels-like temperature remained high at 48 degrees Celsius at 2:30 pm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said there is a possibility of very light to light rain over the next seven days but it has not issued any colour-coded warning.The maximum temperature rose to 35.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. It was 33 degrees Celsius a day earlier.According to IMD, Safdarjung, the city’s base station, Palam and Lodhi Road received ‘trace’ rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. However, Aya Nagar logged 0.2 mm of rainfall during the same period. Safdarjung recorded 0.8 mm of rainfall till 8.30 am. The southwest monsoon arrived in Delhi Thursday as against its normal onset date of June 27.In July so far, the city has logged 5.4 mm of rainfall.IMD has predicted that the day temperature is likely to remain between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius Saturday. However, it may dip to around 30-32 degrees Celsius around July 7. “No large change in maximum temperature is expected during the next three days and fall of 2-3 degrees Celsius is likely thereafter,” said an official.The minimum temperature was recorded at 28.1 degrees Celsius, which is near normal Saturday. It was 22.8 degrees Celsius Friday. It is likely to stay around 26-28 degrees Celsius Saturday.Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality deteriorated from the ‘satisfactory’ category Thursday to ‘moderate’ range Friday. The AQI was 105 as opposed to 96 a day earlier. The AQI is forecast to stay between satisfactory to moderate category over the next few days. In Delhi, monsoon months are the cleanest as regular rain settles down the pollutants.
