CCTVs to curb tampering of attendance machines at social dept offices

New Delhi: In the wake of some biometric attendance systems being “deliberately” damaged, Delhi govt’s social welfare department has ordered installation of CCTV cameras at its offices to keep the devices under surveillance and identify those responsible. The decision was taken during a recent review meeting. An official said that they had been receiving complaints about the devices frequently becoming non-functional. During visits by service engineers to examine the faulty machines, water was found inside a number of them. Officials said that the machines were located at places where there was no apparent source of water or nearby plumbing. The department is also considering a mobile-based Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance mechanism that could be integrated with the Face RD application and real-time location tracking. The proposed system is being considered for officials who spend a significant part of their working hours outside their offices. The review further found that attendance summaries were not being sent by several offices on a daily basis. All office in-charges have now been asked to designate nodal officers for attendance-related matters.
