NEW DELHI: The brutal killing of 22-year-old civil services aspirant in south Delhi has revealed chilling details at the centre of the crime, with cops believing that the accused’s attempt to open a biometric locker using the victim’s fingerprint failed because her blood circulation had already ceased due to death.Police say this forensic clue is key to reconstructing the final moments of the attack, pointing to the sequence in which the assault, suspected sexual violence, and death unfolded inside the house.According to investigators, the accused, a former domestic help known to the family, entered the Kailash Hills residence early Wednesday morning and went straight to the rooftop study where the victim was preparing for her UPSC examination.
Rooftop confrontation turns fatal
Sources said the accused confronted the woman and demanded money, leading to a heated argument. When she refused, he allegedly launched a violent assault, first attempting to overpower and strangulate her using a mobile charging cable.She lost consciousness during the attack. Investigators suspect sexual assault took place at this stage.He then allegedly struck her multiple times with a heavy object, causing fatal injuries. The autopsy later confirmed strangulation as the cause of death, along with multiple abrasions, blunt force trauma, and a nasal fracture, all indicating a struggle.
Dragged body, failed fingerprint attempt
In one of the most disturbing parts of the sequence, police said the accused dragged the unconscious, bleeding victim downstairs to access a biometric locker.“He repeatedly pressed her blood-stained fingers against the sensor, but the locker did not open,” a source said.Investigators believe the failure was due to the cessation of blood circulation, suggesting the victim had already died when the attempt was made.When the biometric access failed, the accused allegedly broke open the locker using a screwdriver and fled with cash and jewellery.
Calculated escape, no remorse
Before fleeing, he changed out of his blood-stained clothes into garments found inside the house and staged a fake phone call while leaving to avoid suspicion.During interrogation, police said the accused showed no visible remorse and repeatedly claimed he had gone there only to steal money, saying “it just happened” when the victim refused to comply.
Trail begins hours earlier in Alwar
What has further shocked investigators is that the Delhi crime was allegedly preceded by another violent offence just hours earlier in Rajasthan’s Alwar.Police there have registered a case based on a complaint that the accused sexually assaulted a friend’s wife late Tuesday night before fleeing towards Delhi — suggesting a rapid escalation in violence.Police say the accused was heavily addicted to online gambling and was under debt of around Rs 7 lakh. While robbery appears to be the immediate motive, police suspect elements of premeditation given his familiarity with the house, knowledge of routines, and attempt to bypass security systems.The accused has been sent to police custody as investigators piece together forensic, digital, and behavioural evidence to establish the complete sequence of events.
