New Delhi: In a city-wide push to improve road discipline, Delhi Traffic Police conducted a three-hour enforcement drive, targeting improper parking and wrong-side driving, two major contributors to congestion and road accidents.The drive was carried out simultaneously across all ranges and districts, ensuring wide coverage. During the operation, over 11,800 violators were prosecuted, reflecting the scale of non-compliance on Delhi’s roads.A major focus area was obstructive parking. Teams cracked down on vehicles blocking traffic flow on main roads, service lanes and busy market areas. Particular attention was given to vehicles parked in no-parking zones, near intersections and on footpaths, which often force pedestrians onto the carriageway and disrupt movement. More than 8,500 such violations were recorded, with several vehicles towed away.The drive also targeted wrong-side driving, a dangerous practice that significantly raises the risk of collisions. Enforcement teams were deployed at accident-prone stretches, arterial roads and known violation hotspots. Drivers across categories, including two-wheelers, autorickshaws, e-rickshaws and commercial vehicles, were booked for moving against the designated traffic flow. Over 3,500 cases were prosecuted during the drive.Officials said the initiative is part of sustained efforts to tackle risky road behaviour that slows traffic and endangers lives. By focusing on key violations, the police aim to improve both traffic flow and safety.The traffic police also appealed to citizens to cooperate by following basic road rules. Motorists have been urged to park only in designated areas, maintain lane discipline and avoid wrong-side driving, even for short distances.The drive will be followed by continued enforcement and awareness measures to promote safer and more responsible road use across the capital.
