NEW DELHI: A month-long water shortage in south Delhi’s Tigri took a tragic turn after a 39-year-old carpenter died of an electric shock while trying to connect the wiring of a water pump near his home, triggering protests by angry residents who alleged that repeated complaints to the local water authority had fallen on deaf ears.Residents took to the streets following the death of the man, identified as Arman, and raised concerns over the water shortage in the area and the authorities’ alleged failure to address their complaints.According to locals, residents had repeatedly approached the local water authority’s office over the water shortage, but their complaints allegedly remained unresolved.Speaking to reporters at the scene, a local resident, Preeti, said, “A young man died due to the water issue.

We’ve gone to their office, but these people are not listening to us.”The residents said they had been forced to purchase water for the past month amid the shortage.“Today it happened to him, tomorrow it could happen to us too. He has very small children…We have been buying water for a month now,” she added.According to a statement from local police, Arman was taken to Batra Hospital by his relatives immediately after suffering the electric shock.Doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead, police said.Arman was a carpenter by profession and is survived by his wife and four children.Police said the deceased’s body has been preserved in the mortuary.Further legal proceedings in connection with the incident are currently in progress, according to police.(With ANI inputs)
