Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Shiv Sena MLA Vilas Bhumre was on Monday unanimously elected chairperson of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District Central Cooperative (DCC) Bank, strengthening the party’s influence in the cooperative sector. He is the son of MP Sandipan Bhumre.Mahayuti contested the DCC Bank polls jointly in Sambhajinagar, with Sena securing nine director posts, BJP seven and NCP two. As per a pre-arranged power-sharing formula among the alliance partners, the chairperson’s post will remain with Sena for the first two years of the board’s tenure, followed by BJP for the next two years and NCP for the final year.The election of the chairperson and vice-chairperson took place at the bank headquarters in the presence of all directors. MP Sandipan Bhumre, OBC welfare minister Atul Save and MLA Abdul Sattar announced the names for the top positions. While Sena secured the chairperson’s post through MLA Bhumre, BJP was allotted the vice-chairperson’s position.

The chairperson’s post had been the subject of intense negotiations between Sena and BJP after the Mahayuti’s victory, with both parties staking claim. The alliance eventually adhered to the rotational arrangement agreed upon before the elections.The formula carries added political significance as the fourth year of the board’s tenure will coincide with the 2029 Lok Sabha and assembly elections. The DCC Bank chairperson’s position is considered politically influential due to its reach across rural cooperative institutions, making it a strategically important post ahead of major electoral contests.In neighbouring Parbhani, Sena also emerged as a dominant force in the DCC Bank elections, further expanding its footprint in the cooperative sector across Marathwada. Polling for the 21-member board recorded a high turnout of 98.2% on Sunday across 14 polling centres, with results declared on Monday. Thirteen director posts had already been decided unopposed, while the remaining seats witnessed contests.Among those elected to the board were MLAs Saeed Khan and Raju Navghare, along with Nandakumar Dakhore, Akash Chokhat, Rajamati Mutkule and Shobha Bobde. Navghare registered a comfortable win, securing 58 votes against rival Tushar Jadhav’s 20 votes, while one vote was declared invalid.The outcome gives Sena a strong presence in the Parbhani DCC Bank, complementing its success in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and reinforcing the party’s growing influence in cooperative institutions across the Marathwada region.
